Tabby the cat

Two days ago, my partners mother was stressing about her cat 'Tabby', who wasn't at home in the morning. Sometimes she stays out - but usually, she returns from where cats go at night and is fast asleep when Elsa gets up.

When Elsa got home, she decided to search for Tabby. She found her, lying in brush behind her house. Her leg was broken. Tabby was taken to the vet for treatment and Elsa was understandably upset. The next day, the vet announces that Tabby had in fact been shot by an air pistol/rifle. Cats having accidents, we understand. Deliberately shooting a cat (on a housing estate) which is visibly a pet (she has a collar and is impeccably groomed) is horrible.

If if was a houseowner proctecting their property - try using another method to scare away other people's pets. If it was children, may you never breed!

Tabby's photo has been used on the cover of an American Vet journal and is hopefully part of an arty book being put together at the moment. All photos that belong to the owner at the linking site, are royalty free. Tabby isn't wearing a collar in that photo. Like all cats, she frequently loses hers.

  1. That's too sad. Some people think animals are "less than" and don't know how cruel they are. People who hurt animals tend to be abusive, so hope your "curse" comes true.

  2. Is Tabby's leg going to heal properly? Or will she have a permanent limp? I feel sorry for her.

  3. The vet is doing regular checks on Tabby to ensure that the wound doesnt get infected. She looks a sorry state with her shaved leg and bandages and of course, mews like mad all the time. She must be so distressed. Whether she will return to 100% or not, remains to be seen.

More concerning is that the vet said that since Christmas, he has seen many cats and animals with pellet wounds - some much more serious than Tabby's. Animals lose eyes, limbs and life due to human insensitivity and cruelty.

Positively, a police docket was opened on charges of animal cruelty and negligent misuse of an air pistol by minors in an urban area (its illegal). Two potential homes have been indentified by neighbours as having problem kids - with other animals and people having come under some form of attack recently.

A neighbour spotted one family's child shooting with a pellet gun on the nearby dunes, and called the police. The parents pleaded innocence and said the gun was bought that day. Now the police want to see receipts. What goes around, comes around
