Alls' well that end's well

Languages evolve. That is a given. What is less of a constant is the way we use our languages. Take one of the most maligned characters in the English language, the apostrophe. Who can say with certainty that they really remember or understand, with certainty, how an apostrophe should be used. Some people feel so strongly about the little squiggly character that there are societies devoted to its preservation.

Should we really worry about where it is placed in a word when we all seem to understand what message is being conveyed anyway?

On my way to work, a shop paints specials of the day/week on it's exterior wall. Choose between Egg's or Sardines. Hmmm.

I for one, would be in favor of a complete and total overhaul of the rules of written English and the invention of a new system of spelling that has some semblance of logic and consistency.

But, honestly, I am kind of attached to apostrophes. I think they're not only cute, but useful.

By the way...My name is Cyrus...it's nice to meet you. I came here via Blogexplosion some time ago, and have been visiting since.
