The wheel of life turns

Sunday was like any other day really. We ended up rearranging the plants on the balcony and with this process came some cuttings that would look nice in one of the planters in our complex. On the way to the planter, we came across a huge grasshopper, on the tarmac, basking in the sun. After some reminiscing about grasshoppers and school days, we went and planted the cuttings. Having forgotten about the grasshopper now, on the way back I promptly stood on it. It was only when I heard the crunch, that I realised what I had done. As a vegetarian, it's a particularly distressing thing to do.

One could take the view that it was the hoppers time to go but heck, why did I have to send it on?

My redemption came later that afternoon when we came across a mole in the middle of the road. A young boy way trying to move it out of harms by kicking it gently, but the mole blindly insisted on moving further across the road. Sensing a karmic moment, I leapt out the car and guided the mole to the soft grassy verge where it still wanted to cross the road. A sharp kick moved it to a softer sandy spot and the thing started digging for all its worth.

One life taken, one life saved (hopefully).

I know your post is really about the grasshopper and the mole, but I was wondering, what types of plants do you grow on your balcony? I would love to see some photos if you've got any...

We keep trying to grow some little things here, but we don't have "green thumbs." Are you pretty successful at it?
