Wow!

On my way to work, I had seen the 'comet' headlines everywhere but never in my life did I imagine what I would see. At dusk yesterday, around 20:30ish, the beach car parks in Bloubergstrand were packed with comet McNaught watchers. It was damn windy too with sand blowing in your face. As the sun set, the comet lit up; and it was unreal. I can really understadn how folk of yore were petrified of anomalous celestial events.

Think back if you will, to a mediaeval tapestry depicticing a comet. The Bayeux tapestry springs to mind. Woven into the fabric a star with a triangular shaped 'tail' streaming from it. Well, it really was like that. No jokes. The tail of the McComet was huge and if you held your hand up, occupied roughly half a hand of space.

We tried to take pics and as soon as they have been downloaded from the camera, will post them. In the mean time, these are borrowed from IOL - link here.
